Dear Temple Sinai Congregants:
Even as my prayers are focused on Israel, my heart on peace, and my thoughts on justice, I want to turn to the essential work of Temple Sinai and update you about progress made by our Rabbi Search Committee (RSC).
RSC co-chairs and past Temple Presidents, Ann Leonard and Keith Greer, are leading a wonderful committee of dedicated congregants (approved by the Board of Trustees): Shelley Cresov, John Diggory, Marilyn Fenster, Lindsey Hagan, Leslie Newman, Tziporah Rosenberg, Gene Schwartz, Sharon Shafrir, Leah Saada-Sherman, Abby Urban-Rifkin, and Elise Wojciechowski.
Ann and Keith met with the Director of Placement Services for the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR), and they connected with the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ). These are the primary organizations that facilitate the hiring process for Reform synagogue rabbis. The RSC has participated in a training session, reviewed CCAR processes, and prepared the congregant survey and group meetings to gather your input.
Seven congregational conversations have taken place in person and on zoom with adults, teens, past presidents and senior staff. The online survey which just closed has yielded a wealth of congregant feedback.
The RSC plans to file paperwork with the CCAR by the end of the month so that the next steps of the rabbi search process can proceed, with first interviews of candidates by Thanksgiving. Going forward, the RSC will provide short updates through Snippets as key milestones are reached.
Thank you for your support of Temple Sinai and confidence in this committee. I am so grateful for its integrity, professionalism, and hard work, and I am sure it will engage qualified candidates who are attracted to the exceptional character of our congregation and the Rochester area.
President,
Temple Sinai Board of Trustees
