High Holy Day Honors: Each May, the Honors subcommittee of the Religious Practices Committee asks committee chairs, board members and our professional staff to nominate congregants who have donated significant amounts of their time throughout the year. This year 300 names were submitted to receive the honor of participating from the Bima during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services!!!! We are thrilled that so many of you have chosen to give of your time to Temple Sinai and to temple functions and wish that we could offer each and every volunteer an opportunity to participate during High Holy Day services. Please know that Temple Sinai could not function without your heartfelt dedication. The Religious Practices Committee will formally invite more than 100 volunteers to take part in Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services. As you see fellow congregants leave their seats and head to the Bima, please wish them a Mazal Tov!
Ushers needed for the High Holidays: Would you like to stretch your legs during Rosh Hashanah and/or Yom Kippur services? You can follow the services and perform a mitzvah by volunteering to usher during one or more services, including the alternative services. This year, Erev Rosh Hashanah services will be on Friday, September 22, at 8:00 PM. Rosh Hashanah Services Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 AM and Sunday, September 24 at 10:30 AM at Temple Sinai. Kol Nidre services will be on Sunday, October 1st at 8:00 PM. Yom Kippur services will be on Monday, October 2nd at 10:00 AM, Afternoon services at 3:15 PM, and the Yizkor service will be at 5:00 PM. To volunteer as an usher and to obtain more specific information, call Peter Bondy, 388-0333, or e-mail him pbondy@bigfoot.com
Torah & Haftarah Readers: The High Holy Days will be here before we know it (September 22). The summer is a perfect time to learn to chant Torah or Haftarah portions for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. If you would like to participate in this important part of the service, please contact Rabbi Katz as soon as possible. By participating, adults and teenagers can add a meaningful experience to their own and their family’s High Holy Day worship.
High Holiday Setup Volunteers: Each year a group of dedicated volunteers magically transforms the JCC for the High Holidays. Please consider giving just one hour of your time. We have the most pressing need for volunteers on Thursday September 21 and Saturday September 30.
Let us know if you can make it. Contact Sue Stanger (slstanger@yahoo.com) or Alan Frishman (frishman@hws.edu)
