TEMPLE SINAI RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
PINAT HA-TALMID

(The Student’s Corner)

By Ilan D. Adar, Education Director

Winter is upon us and all need to bundle-up with warm clothing!  For us, winter also means that it was time to celebrate the holiday of Chanukah, commemorating the rededication of our Temple (the one in Jerusalem . . .) after years of religious oppression.

On Sunday, December 4, our Fifth Grade students and their parents (grandparents) gathered in our Social Hall for the program:  Exploring our Roots.  During the program students had the opportunity to interview their parents (and grandparents); show and tell about heirloom articles belonging to their families; and eat foods made of special family recipes.

On Sunday, December 11, our students visited the Bazaar and enjoyed their Chanukah latkes.

Thank you to the members of the Celebration Committee for helping out in bringing, warming up, and distributing the latkes.

On Sunday, December 18, our students, together with the students of other Religious Schools and Hillel Community Day School, celebrated Chanukah at TBK.  This year we played The Amazing Chanukah Race (based on the TV reality show:  The Amazing Race), during which students, divided into teams, had to play games according to clues found in the text of the Chanukah story.   We ended the day with a Chanukah program in TBK’s Wolk Center

On Monday, December 19, our Kesher students (8th-10th grade) attended a special Chanukah program, during which they watched the movie:  “Pay it Forward.”

Candles:

Thank you to all who have purchased candles from our Religious School during the Chanukah Bazaar.

Your contribution to our Religious School Fund is greatly appreciated.

Our beautiful Shabbat candles are being offered for purchase year-round in our office.

Coffee for a Cause:

Thank you to all who have helped us collect money for the Jewish Family Service.  The money will be used to purchase Chanukah gifts for needy children

The next Coffee for a Cause will take place on Sunday, January 29.

A Great Way to Help Our Temple:

How can you help our temple by doing something that you may do anyway: Shopping?

Temple Sinai has made an arrangement that every item ordered through Amazon.com, usingthe link provided at the bottom of our website (www.tsinai.org), will provide our Temple with 4-10% of your                                         order’s amount with NO additional cost to you.

So, if you are shopping on Amazon.com, please consider doing it through the temple web-site.

To access the link:  Please go to www.tsinai.org (or click on this link), scroll all the way down to access Amazon.com through these links (or click on this link), located at the bottom, left corner; place the pointer on the text and click it.  It will take you to the Amazon.com web-site.  Or, if you wish to search for a specific product (i.e., camera), please enter its name/title in the box next to the “GO” (located in the picture of Amazon.com); place the pointer on the word “GO” and click it.
